I have a stellar reputation as a book coach and Substack consultant. Clients know I go the extra mile for them and offer bespoke support to help them achieve specific goals. I don’t have ‘off the peg’ packages. I build support that is unique to you and your project.

Book Coach

I am available as a ‘book coach’ to non-fiction writers at any stage of their writing process.

I’ve written five non-fiction books for three different publishers, including Harper Collins and Hachette.

I have experience of every stage of non-fiction writing, from back-of-an-envelope ideas to post publication marketing and publicity.

I can help if you:

  • have an area of expertise and want to write a book but are unsure where to start
  • have a book idea that needs refining into something marketable
  • don’t know how to navigate the publishing industry
  • want to write a proposal for agents and need help
  • have a book deal but now need accountability, encouragement or editing
  • have a book coming out and feel overwhelmed or in need of a clear strategy

Some of the questions and situations I can help you with are:

  • Do I have a book idea worth pursuing?
  • Shaping your idea into something unique and marketable
  • How do I get published?
  • Dealing with your imposter syndrome or lack of confidence
  • Creating a brilliant book proposal for agents or publishers
  • Breaking down your writing task into manageable chunks
  • Motivation, accountability and overcoming blocks
  • Final manuscript accepted – what now?

I charge £165 per one hour consultation

For a block of 6 sessions, paid in advance, I offer a discounted rate of £891. (10% off)

If you have work you wish me to read (before our session or between sessions), I charge £165 per 10,000 words, or £85 for 5000 words or less.

For example, reading your 10k word proposal or sample chapter, followed by a one hour consultation, would cost: £330

For more in depth work on your manuscript (reading, editing, structural suggestions etc) I charge £495 for 10,000 words – other word counts negotiable depending on what you need.

For example, reading and making editorial suggestions to your 10k word piece of writing, plus a follow-up one hour zoom consultation, would cost: £660

Substack Consultant

I am also a Substack bestseller with hundreds of paid subscribers and nearly 9000 subs overall.

I can help you with:

    • Getting a clear idea and vision for your substack
    • The practicalities of setting up your substack
    • Setting goals and a regular publishing schedule
    • Branding and improving the look and feel of your substack
    • Monetising your substack
    • Strategies for growth

As with my book consultancy, I don’t offer standard packages – I build support that is unique to you and your needs. I take time to listen to you and help you achieve your specific goals.

I charge £225 for a one hour Substack consultation. This includes an initial discussion about your needs via email, time spent prior to our session exploring your current Substack, and a live hour on zoom.

For a block of 6 sessions, paid in advance, I offer a discounted rate of £1215 (10% off)

I am able to reduce these fees for those on a low income.

I am available for online consultations via Zoom but will also travel for in-person meetings.

In our sessions I will draw on my background as a creative therapist and offer support, deep listening, and a solution focused approach. I will adapt to you and what you need.

“I had previously hired two different proposal editors and still felt my book proposal had not improved significantly. None of that support came close to the value I received from working with Milli. Her one-to-one session was incredibly practical, actionable, and refreshingly no-nonsense, while also being encouraging and supportive.

Milli was able to identify exactly where I was overcomplicating things, repeating myself, or losing clarity, all without changing my voice or the essence of the book. She helped me see both the strengths of the proposal and the areas that needed work, giving me a clear roadmap for improvement.

I left the session with pages of notes, a much stronger proposal, and a renewed sense of confidence in my project. If you’re preparing a nonfiction book proposal and want honest, insightful, and highly practical feedback, I couldn’t recommend Milli more highly.”

“I had been wanting to write a book for years but never knew where to start. Navigating getting a book deal seemed an incredibly difficult task and out of the question for someone like me who had little experience of writing. I decided to approach Milli Hill in the summer of 2020, who had seen much success with her books, and had a long discussion with her about the direction I should take. During the conversation there was a light bulb moment and after arming myself with her advice, I managed to acquire a literary agent several weeks later. This followed with a book deal through a major publisher after an 8 way auction! This was all prior to me even writing the book. My book Midwife Marleys Guide For Everyone was finally published in March 2022 and I have to thank Milli for those early words of wisdom and encouragement.”

“My aim when joining the writing mentorship was to publish the work I finished during my master’s. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but what I found was a safe space to discuss the practical and emotional barriers holding me back from writing, and through intention setting, I found accountability. At the end of the six-week programme, I was amazed to feel like a writer. This surprised and delighted me at the same time. I have just published my work, and without the friendship and support of the mentorship group, my work would still be sitting on my laptop. I highly recommend Milli’s writing mentorship and hope to join again on the next intake to start my next piece of work!”

“I would highly recommend Milli as a Substack Coach. As an experienced, bestselling Substack user, she is in an excellent position to give of her wisdom. And her wisdom is wide-ranging. From tech to insider experience, Milli was a mine of useful information and, within a single session, was able to help me transform my Homepage as well as my understanding of how I might go further to develop my substack in all sorts of ways. She was also very generous, coming to my home to make things easier for me. Reasonably priced, personable and informative, I would recommend her to anyone needing help to get comfortable on this wonderful writers platform.”

“Thanks to Milli’s generous encouragement and expert advice I took the plunge and now have my own thriving substack! Thank you so much Milli.”

“Milli’s guidance was invaluable for getting started on substack: clear, practical and covering all bases. I wouldn’t have done it without her.”
