Hi, I’m Milli Hill

I’m a writer and coach with a passion for a world that centres women.

I started out as a creative psychotherapist, and then when my kids were small (I have three!), I turned to writing. Now, I combine these skills with a busy coaching business and a bestselling substack: WHAT ABOUT WOMEN (the shouty caps are intentional).

Since 2013 I’ve written freelance for many UK papers and publications including the Telegraph, Guardian, ipaper, GoodtoKnow, Grazia, Daily Mail and Mother&Baby Magazine. In the 2010s I was a columnist for the Telegraph women’s section, and for over two years I wrote a viral weekly column for BestDaily Magazine.

I’ve written five books which to date have been translated into seven languages. The Positive Birth Book is one of the UK’s bestselling pregnancy guides, and has sold over 100k copies since publication in 2017, and my second book Give Birth like a Feminist has sold nearly 50k. In the pandemic I wrote a book for preteen girls about puberty called My Period, which is loved by kids and their mums in equal measure. My fourth book, Ultra Processed Women, was published by HQ (Harper Collins) in July 2025 and and book five, The Body Myth, was published in hardback in Summer 2026.

As a writer, I’m perhaps best known for raising awareness of women’s voices, rights, and experiences in the birth room. I am a tireless advocate for women’s choices, and for the notion that birth can be positive in any setting, from home to the operating theatre. From 2012 to 2021 I founded and ran the global Positive Birth Movement, with over 450 groups meeting worldwide to ‘shake up birth’.

I have spoken at numerous events, conferences and literary festivals in the UK and globally including Prague, Amsterdam, Ireland and Australia, addressed the House of Lords, and appeared on many leading podcasts, TV and radio including BBC Breakfast, BBC Radio 2 (Amol Rajan), BBC Radio 5 Live (Emma Barnett), Times radio, BBC Radio 4, talkradio and more.

I also mentor young women in Afghanistan and help them progress their education and careers while they wait for political change.

If you’d like to find out more about working with me, I’d love to hear from you.
